Solar1
October 1, 2007 was the first time I met with Mr. Resch about the idea of completing a project for the New Albany Nature Preserve. The original idea was for me to learn about the solar energy system we have installed on campus and redesign the light along the nature trails and board walk. I met with him a couple of other times after that. He gave me a tour of the nature area and taught me all about that solar system.

After he taught me everything he knew about the solar system we have in place at New Albany High School, I presented that information for the PBS crew. They interviewed me and asked me questions about the system for a special they were filming on Solar Energy.

I gave yet another presentation of the same information to a group which included Architect Meera Parthasarathy, and Franklin Brown, an official of the Ohio School Facilities Commission. I explained to them all of the student driven projects which have been previously completed on the New Albany Campus which includes the installation of the solar array of 20 panels (phase 1), the installation of the combiner box and charge control system (phase 2), the lighting of the board walk with solar powered florescent flood lights (phase 3), using solar powered LED and CF to light the nature trails (phase 4), solar heating of air and space at the nature center (phase 5), and finally (phase 6) the redesign of phase 4. At some point after that, I met with Mr. Resch and he suggested to me that I design a Nature Center for the campus instead of working on the lighting system. From that point on, I have taken on this as my Girl Scout Gold Award Project and my Senior Architecture and Construction Management Project.

On March 19, 2008 I was invited to give a presentation at the Ohio Green Building Summit about the facility I plan to design and eventually construct. This was a chance for me to share the ideas I have so far as well as meet with professionals and hear their input.
