Designer's Story

When I first took interest in a project for the New Albany Nature Preserve, my first goal was to redesign the solar powered lights along the nature paths and boardwalk.  I had no previous knowledge of lighting systems or solar energy, but the more I learned the more I was interested.  I realized that with my strong background in science and math, there was great potential in this area of research.

Beginning my senior year of High School, I enrolled in the AP Environmental Science and Architecture and Construction Management Program through the Eastland-Fairfield Career and Technical Schools.  As I talked with Mr. Resch, he presented me with the opportunity to design a facility for the New Albany School District and surrounding community.  This project stands as a synthesis of two of my main interests: architecture and the environment.

This project which I have taken on serves as my Senior Project for my ACM class and my Girl Scout Gold Award Project.  As this is a huge undertaking, I am designing the facility with the intention that it will one day be fully functioning.  With that, I must also consider areas such as zoning restrictions and building code regulations as well as ultimately gain approval of the architectural review committee and school board.

Overall, this is an exciting opportunity for me to take on this sort of monumental project.  I know I will gain great experience and practice as I design a functional building.  This undertaking can surely not be done alone, so I must thank all of my supporters for their input, sponsorship and ideas.
